Severance Pay is Negotiable
Employees are fired every day, and most simply take the pay which their company offers and are grateful for it. The truth is most employees do not get the severance which they deserve from their years working for that company. As nice as the company executives may be, they are looking out for the best interest of the company, not the fired individual. Those who are laid off are not the company's problem anymore. Employment law can help. Severance pay should not be a take it or leave it situation, but rather one of fair negotiations. Employment law can be useful in reaching these negotiations and settling on a solution which is fair to not only the company, but the former employee as well. When laid off, one should ensure that they receive a severance pay amount that is fair in accordance with their service to the company.
