Who Deserves Severance Packages?

What do severance packages entail and which employees are entitled to one? This is a question which all too many people leave unanswered or allow their company to answer. Employees who have been at a company for any substantial length of time deserve to receive severance pay. It may not be the law for companies to provide severance pay, but no company wants to endure the negative publicity associated with such an act. Neither do companies want to run the risk of a lawsuit over refusal to negotiate severance. All companies expect to negotiate some sort of severance upon firing an employee. These payments can include just money, or money with a combination of benefits that the employee is accustomed to receiving. The bottom line is that everyone deserves the opportunity to negotiate fair severance packages, and should use employment law in order to ensure fair treatment.
